the fuel pumps in e85 cars are setup for spark arresting since e85 is a bit more combustible than regular gasoline.I run about half and half in my 2001. It will start on 80% but the mileage starts to drop off after around 50-60%. Our 87oct gasoline here is already 15%, not sure how the rest of the country is.On Mon, Feb 1, 2010 at 10:44 PM, <Jimcbride@aol.com> wrote:
Bruce,I think E100 will be VERY difficult to start, particularly in cold climate. I've been running E85 in my EVO for the past year and a half. Even though Tucson is relatively warm - 40*F low so far - I still have to inject a bunch of extra fuel to get it to fire off. It is my understanding that ethanol is very hard to ignite; that is the primary reason for the 15% gasoline in E85.E85 will require 30% more fuel by volume (E100 about 40% more). So, for E85 installing injectors that are 30% larger (with a fuel pump that will support the same pressure and the increased flow) should allow the engine to run pretty well on the gasoline tune. Then fine tune to 12:1 AFR (gasoline), or 12.5:1 if you arebrave.Jim in TucsonIn a message dated 2/1/2010 3:32:03 P.M. US Mountain Standard Time, brucefandrews@comcast.net writes:I have 2 questions.
1: What is needed to run E100 ethanol?
2: Does anyone make an aluminum block?
Thank you,
