Really no such thing as an OEM Mazda battery unless you buy a new car with
one installed. The ones Mazda parts and dealers sell in north America are
not the same as the ones that come in the car from Japan. Same with a lot of
parts Mazda sells actually.

I know this may sound like a homer of an answer, but …

I've had my '01 since January of 2003. When I got it the car had been
sitting a lot - it only had 1,500 on the odometer. The battery went
down within the first week I had the car, so I called my buddy at the
local Mazda dealership and told him I had a Certified Used Miata with a
dead battery. He told me to jump it and take it in. They put in a new
OEM battery.

It is still in the car and doing great. I don't know if I will go for
another OEM when it does go down, but I will definitely consider it as
my first option.
