I've had the Red tops die but not the Yellow tops. D51R it is quite a bit lighter than the D35 as well.

I've tried Westco, Optima D35 Red Top, and now I'm using an Odyssey MJ1200 (1200 series, metal jacket), and it's the second Odyssey, because after 9 or 10 months, the first discharged and would NOT come back with a charger (same as the two Optimas I tried).
However, this particular Odyssey did in fact discharge nearly complete not long after I received it, but with a slow 2 amp charge with a motorcycle battery charger to get it to about 5 or 6 volts, and then normal smart charger operation at 15 volts dropping automatically down to 0, it completely recharged and has been good since that time (several months now). This Odyssey is also a deep cycle battery, so it is supposed to be good for hundreds of complete recharges. I do hope I won't have to recharge it that often...
HEAT is an enemy of glassmat batteries, and it has been very hot in the midatlantic region this year (lots of upper 90's and 100 degree days), but the Odyssey is okay for now.
So far, no battery has proven as reliable as the original that came with my '95 Miata.
I'm hoping this Odyssey will last a while...it does have a 4 year replacement warranty, although the battery is expensive compared to an Autozone cheapy.
